NEWS | Engaged!

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted so I thought I’d pop on to share some exciting news and fun new pictures.  I’m engaged!

We’ve set a quick date for this September and are hustling to get arrangements made and invitations in the mail. We wanted to include an engagement photo but each time we’d set out to take pictures they just never seemed right. I SOOOOOO prefer to be behind the camera and not in front of it and it was getting more and more apparent with each shoot we did.  They all seemed so stiff and awkward. I seemed so stiff and awkward rather.

I finally realized for me to loosen up I was going to have to change the feel of the shoot to be something less formal and more fun…the problem was I WANTED the pictures to feel formal. Getting married is a big deal. Anyway, here’s what we came up with.

Justin was a great sport about this shoot…and every other shoot preceding this one, that I made him do, in search of the perfect images. I couldn’t be happier with the results. Not very traditional…but neither are we. I love them.

Funny unexpected side note: So many people mistook our wedding announcement as an announcement that we were expecting (until they READ it of course). In hindsight I can see how blue and pink cotton candy could be misleading. I see an exciting birth announcement in our future though!

PRESENTING | Craziness at the Carnival

This was actually an unplanned and nearly spontaneous shoot believe it or not.  About 2 hours before we planned on meeting to hit up the local fair I had a thought…we should try and get some fun carnival type shots, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. To my delight Emily was game and Daniel, being the stud he is, was willing. : )   Despite the masses of people and multiple times I was yelled at for taking pictures on rides, blocking the lines and/or exit ramps, we still got some fun shots before the sun went down and we were escorted from the park(just kidding).

Here’s to supportive, willing, awesome, fun, gorgeous and GREAT friends! Thanks guys!

PRESENTING | Visitor’s From Across the Pond

Since February 18th I’ve been counting down the days until this shoot. That’s when some dear friends I met in Switzerland last summer emailed saying they’d be out here visiting family and wanted to do some portraits!

Well after weeks and weeks of anxiously waiting the day finally came! (and so did some swiss chocolate that I promptly inhaled) This shoot was sooo much fun, just as I knew it would be. Irene & Joerg are always a blast!! This time with them was especially neat to me as they shared with me the details of “their story”. How they came across one another several years after they’d initially met. Upon first meeting, they immediately had feelings for eachother but the feelings were kept to themselves as they lived in different countries. She gave him her address and hoped to hear from him and he sent postcards hoping to hear back but somehow the postcards weren’t received and therefore they weren’t returned and each figured the other wasn’t interested in them. So you can imagine their excitement to have a bit of a chance encounter one Easter weekend several years later. After being reunited and just a week or so of hanging out they knew they didn’t want to live another day without each other and that was that. Unbelievable right!?!  I can’t wait for their movie to come out! ; )

It’s been several years since that time but you wouldn’t know it when you’re around them as they’re as affectionate and in love as ever! It’s really a beautiful thing to be in the presence of.  It was my goal to capture they’re warm fun personalities as well as that love they feel for each other. I couldn’t be happier with these images…unless I was in Switzerland when I took them. I guess I’ll just have to go back!

PRESENTING | A Rustic Romance

The second this bride-to-be shared with me her vision for the wedding I began not only counting down the days until this Rustic-Antiquey style engagement shoot but also began surfing pinterest for inspiration and pulling every rustic or vintage item from my prop closet I saw and setting it aside; mason jars, ropes, lanterns, wood crates, candles, luggage, dresses, bow-ties, suspenders, hats, boots, flowers, baskets, and so on and so on…and that’s when juices started flowing and ideas for the shoot came together. We shot at 2 locations starting with some woods were we could set up a cozy little scene and as you’ll see below in part 2, some train tracks. Be ready to scroll. There are just too many pictures I can’t not share.

Part 2 – After storyboarding a bit back and forth we  knew we wanted train tracks so I google earthed the area and followed tracks on the map from the station to see where they went then drove to a couple spots before finding the perfect one. There was an area where the tracks were  surrounded by trees rather than buildings or houses and took a beautiful slight curve with just created amazing lines in the frame and I just knew this was the spot. And holy crap I’m obsessed with these!!!

PRESENTING | Being In Love Will Do that to ya

Talk about how love brings happiness and calm through the storm. So…It’s raining outside and our shoot is in an hour. We talk to see how we’re all feeling about it – should we continue? reschedule? they say, yeah it’s fine, it’s not raining that hard and hopefully it will stop soon. So we meet up and…it’s still raining. True, it’s not raining hard but still…it’s raining and these are your engagements. We went ahead in the rain starting at one of my favorite roads with a tree canopy hoping that will shelter us some  from the weather which it did, to a point. You would never believe a girl could be smiling this big when her freshly curled hair is getting wet during her ENGAGEMENT shoot…but in these first several shots that is just the case. Talk about chill, go with the flow and making the most of things. I guess being in love will do that to ya.

Luckily by location #2 she’d smiled the sunshine out and the rain had stopped.

Presenting | Talk About Style!

I love when people let their own personal style determine and steer the style of their session. That’s when you get the goods! I love this series from Elisa & Danny’s session! I just can’t get enough of them.

Presenting | Cherry Blossoms and True Love

It must be spring because there is some serious love in the air! This was a busy weekend for engagement shoots starting with a sunrise session in DC to capture the cherry Blossoms and monuments in the best light with the fewest amount of people. The shoot went great minus a few breaks we took due to rain…but you’d never know.
Shortly after was a shoot at the Beautiful Historic Airlie Homestead.
